Hornby High School has a long tradition of welcoming and supporting students from all over the world, being one of the first schools in Christchurch to provide for international students. The school is situated about 9km from the Christchurch central business district, and is close to Universities, Polytechnics and the International and Domestic Airport. We are committed to the safety, well-being and academic achievement of all students. Hornby High School teachers are specialists in their subject areas and all staff members have tertiary qualifications.
There is a full programme of English language teaching at no extra cost for students who need this support. Each student is assessed on arrival and an appropriate English language programme is organised. This English language support programme is adjusted to suit student needs as their English improves. Hornby High School’s teaching programme is designed to offer the best opportunities for our students, to prepare them for life beyond school. Tertiary Study at University or Polytechnic is a key focus.
Accommodation is arranged through a home-stay agency which also acts as the care-provider. Families and homes are carefully selected to ensure a comfortable and friendly living environment. Students are met at Christchurch Airport on arrival.
